The NCF in Jan - Feb 2010

The NCF is an independent campaigning body that focuses on issues that matter to consumers, aims to give consumers a strong voice, helps vulnerable consumers who are victims of unscrupulous businesses and helps to build the capacity of consumers to become informed participants in the market-place. 

As an NGO, we have very limited financial and human resources, and we can only do so much. For these two months, we are committing ourselves to the activities and programmes listed below.

  1. Publish Consumer Fair Online monthly 
  2. Publish first edition 2010 of Consumer Fair [dedicated to World Consumer Rights Day]
  3. Submission to NERSA hearings on 21 January [re: ESKOM request for a 35% increase in electricity tariffs]
  4. Officially launch Access to Knowledge Centre at KwaMhlanga Mpumalanga 
  5. Commence work on pilot research study into sustainability policy and practices in SA supermarkets 
  6. Start preparations for national conference to mark World Consumer Rights Day on 15 March  
  7. Manage the Consumer Complaints Handling and Referral Service
